The Freest Slave

They showed us the worst life. They showed us what it meant to have no freedom. They locked us down. Our ankles. Our wrists. Our necks and our minds. Then, they unlocked the shackles on our ankles and let us walk. They untied our wrists and watched us build. They even loosened the restraints on our necks and let us speak…but what they were sure to never do was to free our minds. Sure enough, we freely walked into their traps. We freely built our own. And we freely spoke words of ignorance, hatred, and apathy. The Freest Slave of all.
